Technology counts: IT and telecoms insights 2010 - Scotland

Reviews the current state of the IT and telecoms landscape in Scotland, with forecasts for the future. Considers the scope of the sector, its importance to Scotland's economy, and how it fits into government efforts to create a 'digital Britain'. Gives an overview of the economic and policy environment in Scotland and how the IT and telecoms sector fits into it. Presents key data on the sector in Scotland: number, geographic distribution and size of workplaces; size, industrial and occupational breakdown, and geographic distribution of the workforce; industrial distribution, segmentation, growth dynamics and growth of professional roles by occupation; qualifications; earnings; and demographics. Assesses key trends in the sector, and their implications. Looks at growth dynamics, recruitment needs, skills shortages and skills gaps. Focuses on the education system and whether schools, colleges and universities are producing the right skills for the sector. Looks at the IT skills of the wider Scottish population.
