Document Abstract

HIE Business Panel Survey: wave 11 - looking to the future

Reports on a survey conducted by the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Business Panel in September and October 2018. Describes how the HIE Business Panel aims to evaluate the economic climate in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland by gathering opinions from businesses and social enterprises in the area. Identifies the scope of the survey, explaining that 1001 telephone interviews were conducted that covered a range of different topics such as performance, economic optimism, the labour market, and challenges ahead such as Brexit. Presents the survey data in seven key areas and concludes that businesses tended not to be confident about the economic outlook for Scotland but the majority were confident about the Highlands and Islands region. Suggests that more clarity over Brexit would help businesses succeed and feel confident.
