Mind the gap (gender pay gap), IN Architects’ Journal, Vol 246 No 3 14 Feb 2019, pp8-11

Presents key findings from the AJ Working in Architecture Survey which shows how pay gaps persist from entry level all the way to the top. Notes that 82% of respondents back the government’s legislation to calculate the difference between men’s and women’s average earnings. Reports that almost half of male respondents thought men and women in the profession were paid equally; women were only slightly less successful in their salary negotiations; and that there was some support for putting more women on shortlists for recruitment. Suggests there is a need for greater transparency, and that it might be helpful to support women applying for promotion with career development mentors, assisting mothers returning to work, and offering flexible working.
