Document Abstract

And now for the bad news (gender pay gap), IN People Management, May 2019, pp28-31, 33-35

Looks at the lack of progress in addressing the gender pay gap in the workplace, and considers ways in which it might be addressed by employers. Explains that the second round of mandatory gender pay reporting by larger employers shows no progress in narrowing the pay gap between men and women. Discusses the reasons for the lack of progress suggesting that many organisations do not understand gender pay reporting and are reluctant to take action. Highlights examples of initiatives taken by a number of companies which have narrowed the gap, and discusses some of the challenges faced and the need for a longer term approach. Presents information about the gender pay gap sector-by-sector and the distribution of wealth between men and women in each pay quartile.
