Document Abstract

Conversation is key (staff performance review in Edinburgh City Council), IN Human Resources (HR), Jun 2019, pp46-47

Looks at the introduction by the City of Edinburgh Council of a more holistic staff performance framework based on real-time feedback and conversations. Outlines the key features of the local authority, and the problems associated with its use of a traditional paper-based performance management system for staff. Describes the process followed by the Human Resources team to engage staff and other teams in developing a new performance management framework, and outlines the key features of the new framework which places real-time conversations and feedback at its heart. Explains that there are promising signs from the early use of the new framework, with high proportions of staff indicating that they felt valued and clear about how they were performing, and outlines plans for further development.
