Would you let a chatbot coach you? (HR technology), IN People Management, Jul/Aug 2019, pp40-42

Explores the logistical and moral implications of artificially intelligent (AI) chatbot coaches being used by businesses. Describes how technology contributes to daily life in numerous ways, including sources of entertainment like Netflix, all-round assistance in the home like Alexa, and health apps. Argues that chatbots provide businesses with significant cost-saving services and many people prefer interacting with machines. Highlights the successful trial of chatbots in providing cognitive behavioural therapy. Concludes by looking at the downsides, arguing that they cannot be as effective as humans because they cannot draw on personal experience and highlights concerns over the storage of highly personal data.
