Document Abstract

Ready for the off (results of building contractor salary survey), IN Building, No 46 16 Nov 2018, pp24-27

Looks at the key issues affecting professional contractors in the construction industry, drawing on the findings of a survey of professionals employed by building contractors. Identifies the ongoing skills crisis, an uncertain political and economic environment and slim margins as the key factors influencing the position of contractors, indicating that nearly 60% of contracting professionals expect to change jobs in the next 12 months. Presents tables showing the salary levels of key building industry professions across the regions: site managers; quantity surveyors; estimators; project managers; engineers; and health and safety managers. Discusses attitudes towards future career prospects, the impact of skills shortages and lower salary levels compared with the housebuilding sector.
