Document Abstract

HIE Business Panel Survey

Presents survey findings covering economic optimism and business performance, prospects, and productivity. Suggests that while overall confidence in the economy remains low, businesses are more positive about their own performance and remain optimistic about prospects for the year ahead. Notes that businesses considered the European Single Market and free movement of people across the EU as more important to the Scottish economy overall than to their own business. Reports that almost all businesses had taken measures to make best use of their employees and two in five had introduced flexible contracts, with zero hours contracts being introduced to respond to seasonal changes in demand.
