Older people and employment: fourth report of session 2018-19 (HC 359)

Discusses older people and employment. Explores the ageing workforce, the industries where older people work, and government policy on older workers. Assesses the impact of age discrimination on employment in terms of: ageism and age discrimination; enforcement of the Equality Act 2010; older people with other protected characteristics; recruitment bias; transparency and accountability. Investigates flexible and adaptable workplaces in terms of; flexible working; carer’s leave; and enabling employers to develop more flexible and adaptable workplaces. Considers how the government can respond to changes in working life, including a mid-life MOT, access to career advice and support seeking employment, and a national skills strategy. Appraises government policy. Draws conclusions and makes recommendations regarding: the impact of age discrimination on employment; flexible and adaptable workplaces; a workforce for the future; and government policy.
