Document Abstract

New housing and future construction skills: adapting and modernising for growth

Explores the skills issues associated with future housebuilding needs in Scotland, drawing on the findings of a cross-sector working group involving industry bodies, skills providers and Scottish government officials. Outlines the context for the study, highlighting future housing needs and associated skills demand, and describes the role and approach of the working group. Discusses the issues and presents recommendations in relation to nine key themes: short term skills pressures; tracking future needs and skills supply; funding, investment and fairness; public sector statutory skills pipelines; offsite construction skills; upskilling and career pathways; supportive public sector policies; attracting future workforce; and enabling medium and long term skills.
