16-19 education funding: trends and implications

Examines the financial health of sixth forms and further education colleges across England, drawing on analysis of the national pupil database and other data sources. Outlines the key changes and reforms affecting 16-19 education funding and provision since 2010. Examines the impact of reforms on funding for 16-19 education including on institutions, students and apprenticeships. Considers whether the financial health of providers has been affected by recent funding changes, and explores the impact on the qualification landscape. Looks at the impact of funding changes on teacher recruitment and working conditions. Considers whether the effectiveness of provision has been compromised by changes in funding levels, and looks at the key lessons to be learned for future spending reviews.
