Looks at issues concerning the preparedness of young people leaving education for work, drawing on the results of a survey of young people aged 17-23. Highlights and discusses the key finding of the survey that almost half of young people believe their education has not prepared them for the world of work, suggesting that businesses need to support schools and colleges more to inform and inspire students about work opportunities. Considers the main obstacles identified by young people in progressing their future careers, highlighting lack of opportunities in their local area as a key concern, and discusses perceptions about the impact of new technology, external factors such as Brexit and job expectations.
