Document Abstract

Age and gender differences in the variability of vocational interests, IN Journal of Career Assessment, Vol 27 No 1 Feb 2019, pp97-113

Examines age and gender differences in the variability of vocational interest dimensions in the Netherlands. Outlines the context for the study including theoretical underpinnings and vocational interests across the life span, and describes the methodology used. Finds non-trivial differences in the variability of vocational interests across both gender and age groups. Indicates that although significant differences in variability were observed for all six vocational interest dimensions except investigative, the most pronounced differences in variability across age and gender were observed for realistic and conventional dimensions. Highlights that the observed differences in variability were larger in adolescence than in adulthood and that, overall, vocational interests displayed less differentiation within younger age groups compared to adulthood.
